CV builder

Build your CV online

ModernVitae is an online CV (résumé) builder. Add your roles, choose one of 62 templates and see the finished A4 document as you type. You need neither an account nor an installation to build it.

Building, designing and previewing are free. The finished PDF is part of Premium.

A CV that looks the way you will send it

A CV consists of a few parts: personal details, work experience, education, skills and languages. ModernVitae takes you through them and sets them on a page you can see while you write. What you see in the preview is the document: the same page breaks, the same spacing.

You do not have to start from scratch. Bring in an existing CV from a PDF or from pasted text, then check and correct the result before it becomes a CV. Extraction works best with single-column PDFs that contain real text, and it is not free of errors.

The editor in detail

  1. Switch template and design

Under “Design” you choose one of the 62 templates and set colour, font, size and spacing. The page on the right shows every change immediately; your content stays exactly as it is.

The Design area of the editor: the selected Dawn template and the list of all templates with filters on the left, the CV on the right
  2. Check before you send

The check lists what is missing or stands out and takes you straight to the place in question. It shows the page count and length, brings a CV that is slightly too long onto one page and, if you wish, shows the document the way a black-and-white printer would produce it.

The Check area of the editor: no notes, two pages, 271 words; below them the options to fit the CV on one page and to check it in black and white
  3. All templates side by side

The gallery shows every template, filtered by style, photo and columns. Apply the one you choose to your existing CV, or start a new CV with it.

The template gallery in the workspace: search, filters for style, photo and columns, and below them the templates as pages

What the editor does

  • Write directly in the document

Edit the CV right where the text sits, or in the form beside it. Both change the same content.

  • 62 templates, switch at any time

A template changes only the look, never your content. Colour, font, size and spacing are yours to set.

  • Bring in an existing CV

From a PDF, from pasted text or from a file. You see what was recognised and correct it before the CV is created.

  • A check based on fixed rules

Notes on missing details, overlong bullet points, gaps or duplicate entries. No score; what you change is up to you.

  • Photo with cropping

Upload a photo, choose the crop and decide on shape and size. Or leave it out.

  • Fit on one page

If the CV is slightly too long, the editor tries tighter spacing and a smaller font and shows you whether it fits.

Your CV in three steps

  1. Enter your content or bring in an existing CV.
  2. Choose template, colour and font; the preview shows every change immediately.
  3. Save it for free in an account. You download the finished PDF with Premium.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to create a CV?

Yes. The editor with all content, all 62 templates, colours, fonts and the full preview are free. Downloading as a PDF and printing are part of ModernVitae Premium (€2.99 for 30 days, one-off payment).

Do I need an account?

No, not to build your CV. Without an account, it stays in your browser as a draft. With a free account, it is saved permanently and is there on every device you sign in on.

Can I import an existing CV?

Yes, from a PDF, from pasted text or from a file in ModernVitae’s own format. Extraction from a PDF can contain errors; you see and correct the result before the CV is created.

Does ModernVitae write text for me?

No. ModernVitae contains no AI, does not generate text and does not rate you. It gives you tools, templates and a check based on fixed rules.

Which languages can the CV be in?

The headings of the document are available in German, English, French and Spanish. You write your content in the language you are applying in.
