Free browser extension for Chrome and Edge

ModernVitae Companion: take job ads straight into ModernVitae

With the free browser extension you take interesting job ads from Chrome or Edge into your ModernVitae account with one click. There you turn them into your application.

Version 0.1.0. The Companion is not yet published in the Chrome Web Store or on Microsoft Edge Add-ons. Until then you install it yourself as an unpacked extension in the developer mode of your browser: a few steps, not a one-click installation.

As soon as the Companion appears in the Chrome Web Store and on Microsoft Edge Add-ons, the link to the store will be here.

Both files contain the same extension; the name only helps you pick the right one.

Use it to check that the file arrived unchanged. On Windows, for example: certutil -hashfile filename SHA256 · All checksums (SHA256SUMS)

Install it in Chrome and Edge

  1. Download

    Download the ZIP file for your browser.

  2. Unzip

    Unzip the file into a folder that can stay, for example in “Documents”. The browser loads the extension from this folder: do not delete it afterwards.

  3. Open your extensions

    Type chrome://extensions into the address bar (Chrome) or edge://extensions (Edge).

  4. Turn on developer mode

    Chrome: the “Developer mode” switch at the top right. Edge: the “Developer mode” switch in the left column.

  5. Load the unpacked extension

    Chrome and Edge: “Load unpacked”. Choose the unzipped folder that contains the file manifest.json.

  6. Pin it to the toolbar

    Click the puzzle icon “Extensions” in the browser toolbar and pin the ModernVitae Companion (the pin in Chrome, the eye icon in Edge).

  7. Connect it to ModernVitae

    Click the Companion icon and choose “Connect to ModernVitae”. Sign in and confirm what the Companion may do.

  8. Save your first job

    Open a job ad, click the Companion, check the details and choose “Save job”.

Good to know

  • Chrome may remind you that an extension runs in developer mode. With this kind of installation that is normal.
  • If your organisation manages the browser (on a work computer, for example), developer mode often cannot be turned on. Then this installation is not possible; please wait for the store listing.
  • Updates do not arrive by themselves: download the new version, replace the contents of the folder and click “Update” in the extension management.
  • To remove it: “Remove” in the extension management. You disconnect it from your account under Account.
  • The Companion is for Chrome and Edge on a computer (Windows, macOS, Linux). There is none for phones.

Saved jobs are kept in your account: up to 20 for free, without limit with Premium. In the application tracker you turn a job into an application, with your CV, cover letter and the status of every application.

And on your phone?

Phones have no browser extensions. For Android we are preparing a way to send jobs to the installed ModernVitae web app through the “Share” menu. As soon as it has passed testing on real devices, this page will explain how.
